Key 13 Horsemanship teaching positive reinforcement

Key 13 Horsemanship, which focuses on horse training, will be one of the many places people can visit as part of the upcoming Open Farm Days.
They will be hosting on Aug. 15 only, and will be doing a horsemanship demonstration at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
“On the Sunday we are doing a partnership with Sacred Heart Gypsies. She is on the Open Farm Days too, and we do a horsemanship demonstration at her place,” said Marine Romi Viscogliosi, owner of Key 13 Horsemanship.
Key 13 Horsemanship started in 2023 when Viscogliosi bought the acreage. Along with the horse training, they also have a small breeding operation of Paint and Quarter Horses.
“I specialize in behaviour, and I do what we call behavioural rehabilitation, meaning if a horse is having a bad behaviour, I’m trying to help him walk through it, so he is a better partner for the people, but to also give him a chance sometimes to find a good home,” she said, adding that she also does a lot of education with the owners.
A couple of weeks ago Viscogliosi happened to do her first behavioural clinic.
“It was very nice. We had a lot of people and a lot of learning experiences, and people were very happy,” she said.
She had people show her how they ride their horse, and show them what they do with their horse, and then gave them instructions, working through their issues.
While at Key 13 Horsemanship, visitors will get a chance to observe the herd there.
“We have eight horses who roam on the 40 acres. As a herd, it’s interesting for people to see the dynamics, because we have a one year old, a two year old and a three year old, with the older one being 20. They can see the lead mare and how they act with each other.
“It’s like a band of wild horses, so it’s interesting for people to see how they act in a natural condition.”
The lead mare is protecting everybody and showing them where to eat or where to go.
Viscogliosi has been involved with horses since she was young, stopped for a bit when she was a teenager, but then picked it up again in 2017 when she met her lead mare.
That same mare was moved from Quebec, where Viscogliosi lived for a while, to Alberta, where the mare was at Lakeland College with her for two years.
This past spring, Key 13 was a finalist for the 2026 Luminary of the Year Award by Alberta Farm Fresh Producers Association.
