An extreme cold warning has been issued this morning for the Red Deer area, by Environment Canada.
Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, and wind chill values near -40 C are expected to moderate later this morning. Wind gusts will reach 50 km/h.
People should cover up, and if it’s too cold for humans to stay outside, it’s too cold for their pets to stay outside.
The temperature is forecast to reach -12 C later today.
Winds will gust to 40 km/h after midnight. Wind chill is forecast to reach -18 C this evening and -28 overnight, so there will be a risk of frostbite.
